As part of the 30th anniversary of the Gundam series, a giant Gundam statue was erected in Shiokaze Park on Odaiba Island. Gundam is a 50 billion yen franchise for Bandai Namco which started as a TV series in 1979. Gundam is such a cultural icon in Japan that it has been on stamps, used on fire fighting promoting posters & Gundam is the code name for Japans self Defense Forces advanced personal combat equipment.
